Key Focus Areas

Our Integrated Health and Well-being Program is a comprehensive initiative designed to address critical health issues affecting our community, with a particular focus on women and girls. Through targeted interventions and community engagement, we aim to create lasting positive change in the following areas:

  • Menstrual Hygiene Management
  • Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition
  • Gender Based Violence Eradication
  • Mental Health

Ongoing Project: Monthly Community Safe Space Menstrual Hygiene Management Sessions

Our Menstrual Hygiene Champions conduct community-based MHM awareness sessions and sanitary towels distribution to 100 in-school and out-of-school girls. This program aims to keep girls in school during menstruation and end period shame and poverty, which is a key contributor to teenage pregnancies, new HIV infections and HIV in Kisumu County. We also conduct targeted school MHM sessions.

Past Event: Ending Teenage Pregnancy and HIV in Dunga Fishing Community, Kisumu

Supported by Global Youth Mobilization Fund in 2022, DGYG conducted a 6-month robust community dialogue with fishermen, adolescent girls, parents, and local authorities to promote prevention of teenage pregnancies and HIV transmission among teenage girls. We conducted SRHR Advocacy focusing on Age Appropriate Adolescent Comprehensive Sexuality Education in Dunga Community to:

  • Provide adolescent girls and young women with knowledge on their Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights
  • Offer economic empowerment through entrepreneurship training for young women and parents
  • Refer teenage girls to reproductive and medical health services

Alongside physical community outreaches, we conducted online advocacy campaigns against the Sex for Fish Practice in Dunga Beach, Kisumu County. We reached 500 AGYWs, 300 parents and fishermen.
