About Us
Dreams Redefined CBO formerly referred to as Dreams Girl Youth Group -abbreviated as DGYG is a legally registered women led and women's rights Community Based Organization in Kisumu Kenya. It was formed by young women who were beneficiaries of the DREAMS project-AfiaPlus, AfiaZiwani and the current USAID4TheChild DREAMS Project in Nyalenda, Kisumu County. in January 2017. Later on, Dreams was registered on 6th October 2017 at the Kisumu East Department of Social services. In September 2023, Dreams Girl upgraded it's registration into a Community Based Organization and was registered on 25th March 2024, at the Kisumu Central Sub-County, social Development office, according to Kenya's Community Group Registration Act No. 30 0f 2022.
Dreams Redefined CBO was established as a young women savings and loaning initiative in 2017. This was done by a group of beneficiaries from USAID Afya Plus DREAMS Project 2016, that empowered young women with skills on Entrepreneurship, Financial capabilities, Start Awareness Support Action- SASA(awareness on preventing and ending violence against women and girls), Comprehensive Sexuality Education initiatives like - HCBF-Healthy Choices fir a Better Future, MHM-My Health My Choice, Sexual Reproductive Health and rights-Shuga Series and FMP-Famillies Matter! Program, with the Goal of reducing the rate of New HIV infections, teenage pregnancies and Gender -Based Violence among adolescent girls and young women in Kenya. The founders, who themselves benefited from DREAMS projects, saw the need to create a sustainable platform that would continue to support and empower young women. This is why DGYG was formed, to extend the efforts of the mother-project in the rural and poor urban settlements of Kisumu County, to realize reduced cases of New HIV infections, Teenage Pregnancies and GBV(Triple Treat) among girls and women.
