Ongoing Project: Safe Space Conversations for Women and Girls

In 2024, we facilitated Safe Space Conversations for 1,000 women and girls, providing them with a platform to openly discuss their experiences of violence without fear or prejudice. Additionally, we engaged 600 men and boys in the prevention of VAWG by sensitizing them on gender roles, respect, and non-violent conflict resolution strategies such as dialogue, mediation, and negotiation.

These conversations help break the silence surrounding violence and empower survivors to seek support. Our safe spaces are designed to be:

  • Confidential and non-judgmental environments
  • Facilitated by trained community advocates
  • Connected to support services and resources
  • Inclusive of all women and girls regardless of background

Community Engagement

Through our engagement with various stakeholders, including local leaders, religious leaders, boda boda riders, men, women, and police, we conducted community dialogues to collectively address Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). These dialogues encourage alternative dispute resolution mechanisms like mediation, negotiation, and dialogue.

As a result, we have recorded a significant reduction in incidents of domestic violence, sexual violence, and public harassment of women and girls in the Nyalenda community.

Key Achievements

  • Facilitated 200 survivors to seek help and support through Safe Space Conversations
  • Engaged 600 men and boys in VAWG prevention and awareness
  • Organized community dialogues to challenge cultural norms that condone violence
  • Created a network of community advocates against gender-based violence
  • Established partnerships with local authorities and service providers

Through these efforts, we have seen a greater sense of safety for women and girls in Nyalenda, with significant progress in breaking the silence around gender-based violence.
