Ongoing Projects

1. Climate Change and SRHR Project - DGYG Pads Progress

This project focuses on empowerment and environmental sustainability through manufacturing reusable sanitary products in Nyalenda. Supported by Slum Dwellers International – Kenya and Muungano Wa Wanavijiji, it addresses environmental concerns, fosters economic empowerment, and breaks down societal barriers related to menstrual hygiene.

Key initiatives include:

  • Annual Nyalenda Period Festival, commemorating Kisumu County World Menstrual Hygiene Day
  • Empowering 500 adolescent girls annually with menstrual health education
  • Distribution of single-use and reusable sanitary towels
  • Addressing HIV, teenage pregnancies, and Sexual Gender Based Violence
  • Partnership with Make Me Smile Kenya for follow-up sessions
2. Malizingira Project

This project focuses on waste management and environmental conservation:

  • Trained 30 waste management champions in Kisumu
  • Monthly community awareness training and clean-up activities
  • Collaboration with waste pickers' organizations for household waste collection
  • Planted 300 trees
  • Advocacy for conservation of Lake Victoria and other rivers in Kisumu
  • #LetLakeVictoriaBreathAgain and #RestoreRiverWigwaandAuji campaigns

Past Project: Proper Waste Management Trainings

Supported by Malizingira Movement, this project focused on environmental conservation and proper waste management in informal settlements:

  • Trained 30 waste management champions in Kisumu
  • Champions work towards environmental conservation
  • Promotion of proper waste management in informal settlements

This project laid the foundation for our ongoing Malizingira Project, demonstrating our commitment to long-term environmental sustainability in our community.
